The rules for A Year of Thrift are basic.
After mortgage, insurance, and basic utilities are paid, our family has $200/week to spend. This includes groceries, entertainment, clothing, gifts, and whatever else may come our way.
If we have any money left over at the end of the week, it will be put in a fund for travel. If we want to do anything beyond the $200, we have to somehow make up the money - either by selling something, by doing a service for someone above and beyond our existing jobs, or by some other means.
We will do this for one year: August 1, 2009 to August 1, 2010.
This blog chronicles our family of four’s year of thrifty living.
