For Writers
DRT Press accepts submissions of manuscripts concerning the
world of adoption. We are particularly interested in receiving manuscripts
about under-represented groups in the adoption triad. We currently only publish
books for children but we are interested in books for adults, and craft and idea
books. We are not accepting picture book manuscripts at this time.
We would LOVE to see submissions
about adoption from Guatemala, older child adoption (both international and
domestic), open adoption, and adoption of children from foster care.
We are actively seeking submissions for an upcoming anthology of essays that focus on the trials and triumphs of parenting children who are easy to love, but due to behavioral issues, hard to raise. Please click here to read a more thorough call for submissions.
We welcome submissions from unpublished writers.
Please follow standard submission guidelines and either send
a query letter (in the case of longer manuscripts) or include a cover letter
(in the case of picture book and shorter manuscripts) that explains
who you are, who you see as the audience for your proposed book, and
how you will help with marketing. Please be sure to research the market and
let us know how your book will be different than other books on the same
topic(s). At DRT Press we have found that the very best strategies for marketing
niche books are sometimes the less expensive ones: e-mail lists, participation
in topical listservs, newsletter articles, local press, and targeted
book signings. What are you willing to do? Be realistic, but be enthusiastic!
We allow simultaneous submissions (of course!) but please
let us know so if we're interested in something we can contact you quickly.
For Illustrators
DRT Press welcomes illustrator's samples for our upcoming picture books. Please submit a resume, a brief statement about yourself, and samples of your work. We will keep sample packets on file for use in our upcoming projects.
Be sure to include illustrations of children in various poses,
including close-ups of faces of various ethnicities. Do not send originals.
If you would like your submission acknowledged, please enclose a SASE.
